River Colne and Roman River data on the NBN Atlas

Essex Wildlife Trust Biological Records Centre received funding from the Environment Agency in late 2017 to digitise river corridor survey data for the River Colne and a number of tributaries along the catchment.

Essex & Suffolk Water, who own and manage Abberton Reservoir, have noticed a rapid reduction in the abundance of submerged plant life in the reservoir close to where Layer Brook flows in. Investigations have so far failed to explain the loss of plant life but have identified an increased build-up of sediment from Layer Brook.

This partnership project is supported by Essex Wildlife Trust, The Environment Trust, Natural England and the Defence Estates who own and manage the land.

Himalayan Balsam

This is a partnership project. This project is supported by Essex Wildlife Trust, Local Wildlife Sites, Water for Wildlife and Biological Records Officers and Essex County Council and Colchester Natural History Society. Essex Water for Wildlife has been awarded £5000 as catchment host for this river and is a key partner in this LAG.
